Evercore financial analysts have issued a new forecast that says
T-Mobile's fibre-optic business will reach 5 million US subscribers
by 2030, with annual revenues of $5 billion.
In an investment report, the analysts wrote: ‘Looking to 2030,
we expect T-Mobile to achieve fibre coverage for 14 million homes... a
nd 4.8 million subscribers. Assuming average revenue per user (ARPU)
of $75 and 4% annual growth, revenues will reach approximately $5
billion in 2030.’ This is the first time Evercore has assessed the maturity
of T-Mobile's fibre business, and its forecast is based on two main premises:
1. T-Mobile will complete its acquisition of fibre operator Metronet
(having previously partnered with EQT to acquire Lumos)
2. T-Mobile's bid for other carriers such as Lumen Technologies (which AT&T
is rumoured to be acquiring for $5.5 billion) is not considered
‘While no specific subscriber targets have been announced, management
believes it will outperform traditional fibre carriers (~35%) in long-term
market penetration with its national brand, digital retail channels, and ability
to convert fixed wireless access (FWA) waiting lists in oversupplied markets’,
the analysts noted.
According to the analysts, ‘Despite management's caution on the benefits
of convergence, the fibre business will fuel a net annual increase of 650,000
postpaid mobile subscribers and an increase in annual wireless service revenues
of $200-350 million.’
