According to the latest research data of the Global Mobile Suppliers Association
(GSA) in May 2025, fixed wireless access (FWA) technology has become the
mainstream solution for home and enterprise broadband. At present, 567 operators
in 188 countries and regions around the world have announced the provision of
FWA services based on LTE or 5G, of which 495 operators in 176 countries have
officially commercialized.
Europe and the Middle East and Africa are the most active in FWA deployment.
The United States ranks first among countries with 42 LTE FWA operators, while
Slovakia and Nigeria have a large number of regional suppliers. In the field of 5G
FWA, 27 EU countries have built 82 commercial networks.
In terms of tariff structure, 45% of LTE FWA services adopt the traffic billing model,
and 21% adopt the rate grading model. The tariff difference of 5G FWA is small,
with 26.6% being pure traffic billing and 21.1% being rate grading. About 24.4%
of LTE operators and 26.6% of 5G operators provide truly unlimited packages.
In terms of speed performance, the average peak download speed of LTE FWA is
150.8Mbps, while that of 5G FWA reaches 768.6Mbps. In terms of actual experience
speed, the average LTE network is 32.6Mbps, and the 5G network is about 149Mbps.
In terms of equipment selection, 84% of operators provide indoor customer terminal
equipment (CPE), and only 22.2% support outdoor CPE. There are currently 904 LTE
CPE and 338 5G CPE devices on the market from more than 110 suppliers, showing
a highly fragmented market structure.
GSA pointed out that with the upgrade of LTE-Advanced networks and the expansion
of 5G networks, the number of FWA services will continue to grow, especially in rural
and underserved areas. The maturity of the 5G FWA equipment ecosystem will further
promote this trend.
